One year ago, we've started the spring part of season last in the league table, with the worst attack and worst defense in the league, with just 10 points. Now, we are starting with the best attack in the league, joined with 1st Gorica and one of the best defences.
We have come a long way since then and we have improved in every aspect as a team and as a club. We should not deceive ourselves - we are still far from what we should look like a club and a team. It will be a very challenging spring campaign, but the progress we had is undeniable. We have done a lot of positive things and we have made a lot of mistakes, but since I joined the club, from fighting to avoid relegation, to compete for promotion happened too drastic and I consider this as a positive grade for our work as a club, so far.
For the first time in the transfer window, we were more successful in bringing Slovenian players like one of the league goalscorers Tian Pantelic, the young and very promising Matevz M. Slacek, who scored against Champion of Slovenia - Celje, promising young goalkeeper Dennis Zeriali and in my opinion, one of the best Slovenian defenders - Amir Feratovic. Some of the new players came late, so will need time to adapt, some will need to show their qualities from first week. Player like Berahino is contributing a lot to the league and the country, providing more visibility, by bringing players who had played successfully at the highest level - of course his experience and knowledge will be priceless for our squad. This would not have been possible, if it wasn't our sports director, Lyndon Tomlinson, who once again proved, that he could do miracles on the transfer market.
We don't feel like favourites to win promotion - there are still a lot of pieces to be put together, to be able to claim that - facilities are under construction, organization-wise we are still far from being optimal, but we will take every game as opportunity to show ourselves and to grow.
We go against one of the best defences in the league and it will be hard away game. Dravinja is one of the consistent teams in the league, they have very good coach, who has been with them for a long time and a solid squad, that knows each other very well. We start the spring campaign as the team in best form in the league, let's hope that we can continue this statistic after the end of this round too.
